Reasons not to throw away mid-century’s furniture

Even though it might be hard to sell furniture from this time, there’s no reason to throw it away just because it’s from the 1950s or 1960s. There are many reasons why you might want to keep or fix up the mid-century modern furniture you inherited, but the three below should at least make you think.

The style of mid-century modern furniture

The style of mid-century modern furniture is clear to everyone. All fans of furniture can appreciate the great clean lines and cool shapes. The furniture made in the middle of the 20th century is very well made, and no one can deny the value of nostalgia.

We suggest that you decorate your home with the unique mid-century pieces you have in your garage because:

It’s really cool: Furniture design has never been so new before. Between 1945 and 1975, the lines and shapes of furniture were very different because, for the first time in history, furniture was made without any frills or extra decorations. The old legs and carvings were taken away and replaced with square posts and clean lines. Balance and tension were a big part of mid-century design: big table tops on small square legs, square couches with round legs, etc. Just sitting on a vintage mid-century couch instantly makes you way cooler.

It’s Made Well

Most furniture from this time period is of much higher quality than most furniture made today. Most of the furniture has solid wood or veneer and well-made joints. It was made to last and to be used and enjoyed. The couches were sometimes more than 100 inches long so that all of your guests could fit on them. It’s also a great piece to put in the middle of the family room table.

Happy Memories

Anyone over 40 can remember some of the mid-century modern furniture in their parents’ or grandparents’ homes. Some of it might even still be in their hands. Furniture reminds us of good times with family and friends, so nostalgia should be taken into account when deciding whether to sell, throw away, or refinish a piece. If you don’t think about it, you might regret your choice later. Because most people would agree that it would be nice to have at least one piece of furniture that reminds you of your ancestors.
